What if the #Spurs didn't end up with Tim Duncan?...

Trey Kerby posted today on Balls Don't Lie about what might have happened to the San Antonio Spurs had they not ended up with Tim Duncan. I especially like how he suggests it would have impacted Tony Parker, my athlete nemesis.

Great post, mostly focused on Duncan's decision to come out in 1997 - when the Spurs were crappy; in position to draft Duncan - rather than 1996, however. What also bears mentioning is that the odds of ending up with that top pick in the 1997 draft were stacked unbelievably in Boston's favor.

The Celtics had the second worst record, and actually had two picks going into the lottery - a 36% chance of getting the top pick.* It is believed that this is the main reason Rick Pitino chose to make the jump to the NBA and take the Celtics coaching gig; as Hoops Vibe posted on the 10th anniversary eve of that '97 draft: Rick Pitino & the Boston Celtics Hedged on Tim Duncan, and Lost.

Imagine. Then Tony Parker could have joined the Celtics, they would have had a big-three a decade earlier (Parker, Pierce, Duncan), and maybe I could work thru and find a way to treat both Parker and Pitino with a modicum of respect.

The 8 Worst Teams in NBA History...

Chuck-nevitt

You all remember the enigmatic Chuck Nevitt, no? That's him pictured above, getting him armpit tickled.

Chuck was an esteemed member of the 1982-83 Rockets, one of SI's Top 8 Worst NBA Teams of All Time. That roster also included Albany State University's finest, the Jones brothers, Major and Caldwell (a.k.a. "Pops").

Check out the rest of the list on SI.com and good luck tonight, New Jersey.
